ESSENCE AND FUNCTIONS OF FEUDAL CASTLE IN EUROPE

Abstract.
The article is devoted to the issues of the consideration of the genesis, essence and functions of the feudal castle that have not been mainly taken into account by national and foreign researchers. On the basis of the source study analysis of medieval royal letters, the study of the geographical locations of castles in Europe a new author’s definition of castle is given in the presented research for the first time. The author first analyzes the problematic of the synthesis of artistic, functional and constructive in castle architecture.
