THE ENGLISH MOVEMENT OF PRE-RAPHAELITES AS COUNTER-CULTURAL PHENOMENON

Abstract.
The article is devoted to the analysis of a counter-cultural component of the movement of Pre-Raphaelites. In the work the creativity of Pre-Raphaelites is considered as an attempt of the “reformation” of the Victorian painting by means of the infusion of a new subject area and technique of painting in it. As a conclusion the author gives a brief characteristic of the influence exerted by the movement of Pre-Raphaelites on the origin of a number of new schools and movements in the British artistic culture of the last third of the XIX - the beginning of the XX century.
