Abstract.
The article is aimed at showing the role of the Indian merchants in the development of Astrakhan-Derbent trade in the XVII century. The authors deal with the issue of the formation time of the Indian colony of Astrakhan and Derbent, give information about the trade turnovers of certain people among the Indian merchants, show the range of goods exported from Derbent market to Astrakhan and vice versa. As a result of the conducted research the authors conclude that the Indians are major professional merchants.
