“LINE OF BEAUTY” OF THE ANCIENT GREEK ART

Abstract. The article is devoted to the nature of line in the art of ancient Greece. It represents an idea of beauty and harmony. Philosophy, religion, art are manifested in the line of “beauty”. The author investigates line in the plastique of sculptural images reconstructing an ideal of ancient civilization; the researcher also identifies the figurative nature of the line of “beauty”. The technique of “chiasmus” in terms of line plasticity is analyzed. The essence of the ancient Greek canon is studied.
