PLANNING OF NAKHICHEVAN-ON-DON: IDEAS OF REGULAR TOWN BUILDING OF THE LAST QUARTER OF THE XVIII CENTURY

Abstract. In the article the town-building principles, which are the basis of the planning of Nakhichevan-on-Don, are analyzed. The author reveals the peculiarity of the town planning that is expressed in non-traditional for the region orientation on the axis “east - west” to the fortress of Saint Dimitry of Rostov. It was defined by the author of the plan as the ideological dominant destined to consolidate the position of the settlers-Armenians in the structure of the Russian Empire. The author draws a conclusion about the hierarchy of functional and ideological tasks, which were solved by means of official planning.
