Abstract.
The subject of this article is the events associated with the opening of a classical school in Saratov. The paper shows how the requirements of the school reform were implemented in Saratov in 1804, considers the circumstances that protracted the opening of Saratov classical school for more than a decade and a half, and explains the role of the provincial administration in the organization of the first secondary school in Saratov. The author studies the attitude of both the noble corporation of Saratov province, and local merchants to the creation of the classical school.
