EPIC, SACRAL, DRAMATIC: DISTINGUISHING IMAGE-BEARING SPHERES IN PROCESS OF PASSION GENRE FORMATION

Abstract. The work is devoted to the history of passion genre in the European music. The article analyzes the original selection of image-bearing spheres in the process of the genre formation. Three opposed spheres are considered: the Evangelist’s narrative, the words of Christ and other characters of the passion plot. The interpretation of these image-bearing spheres can be traced in different periods of the genre existence. The conclusion is made about interrelation between different layers of meaning and the methods of creative thinking as one of the characteristic features of passion genre.
