POLICY OF IRAN IN THE MIDDLE EAST: IMPACT ON NEW IRAQ

Abstract.
The modern influence of Iran on Iraq is conditioned by the presence of religious and cultural community between the states, by the repressive policy of the former ruling Ba'ath Party, mainly under Hussein oriented against the opposition, as well as by measures taken by Iran to support Iraqi opposition. After the military invasion of the USA into Iraq in 2003 Saddam Hussein’s regime was destroyed - the common enemy of Iran and active Iraqi opposition - and conditions to ensure the presence of Iran in Iraq and to develop cooperation between the countries arose. The article deals with the aspects of the impact of Iran on new Iraq (after the fall of Saddam’s regime) and reasons for this influence.
