Abstract.
The article discusses the role of the statesman and political figure Ivan Lazarevich Lazarev in the history of Russia of the XVIII century. Special attention is paid to the contribution of I. L. Lazarev into the rapprochement of Russian and Armenian cultures, spirituality and education. Such view will be of interest for specialists in the sphere of the domestic history of the period of Catherine the Great. Considering the established geopolitical situation and the problem of the relations of modern Russia with the people of Transcaucasia this theme is quite relevant nowadays.
