Abstract.
The article examines the peculiarities of organizing trade and public catering in the regions of pioneer development by the example of the towns and settlements of the BAM (Baikal-Amur Mainline) in the 1970-1980s, analyzes the problems of the formation of the workers’ supply system. The author identifies the delay in the construction of trade objects from the rates of population growth in the area of the mainline building. The paper reveals the reasons for the low supply of the builders with trade enterprises, among which the following ones should be mentioned: the principle of residual financing, departmental disunity, the underdevelopment of transport network, severe climate, etc.
