PROVIDING INFORMATION SECURITY OF THE SUPREME HEADQUARTERS DURING PREPARING AND CONDUCTING THE BATTLE OF KURSK

Abstract. The article analyzes the historical experience of providing information security while transferring confidential messages in the link the Supreme Headquarters - front - army during preparing and conducting the Battle of Kursk. On the basis of archival and published materials the author identifies two components of information security while transferring the orders and directives of the country’s top leadership during managing the Red Army military units: material-technical and organizational ones. The Division of Government Communication of the Front and the People’s Commissariat for Internal Affairs government communication troops served as the basic instruments to perform the communicative functions of the supreme military commandment in the second period of the war.
