Abstract.
The article deals with the characters of the pagan pantheon - agricultural deities - and their personification in the views of one of the Daghestani ethnic groups - the Dargins. The connection between these characters and the cults of the sun, fertility and ancestors is pointed out. The authors emphasize that the mythological images represented in woman’s and man’s appearances are directly related to the patronage of the individual cycles of agricultural production. The agricultural deities and their personifications were destined to ensure good harvest, offspring of cattle and to protect against the adverse effects of the elements.
