Abstract.
The article examines bishop Khrisanf (Retivtsev)’s doctrine on primeval monotheism and the reception of this doctrine in V. S. Solovyev’s creative work. Studying bishop Khrisanf’s view on the origin and evolution of religion allows concluding that his theory was based on the achievements of philosophy and religious studies of that period and had a creative potential for further research and development. In spite of the fact that in modern religious studies primeval monotheism theory is considered to be outdated, it is of interest both for the history of religious studies and for the further research of early religious beliefs.
