Abstract.
This article deals with the functional problem of consciousness related to how it functions and what its basic mechanisms and patterns are. The main ways to solve this problem within the framework of the modern psychological and philosophical conceptions of consciousness are outlined. Ontological difference between conscious and unconscious experience within the functional structure of psyche is revealed. The interrelation of the phenomenology of mental experience and its neurophysiological basis is studied.
