ESTONIAN LANDSCAPE OF THE BEGINNING OF THE XX CENTURY IN THE CONTEXT OF FORMING ARTISTIC AND IMAGINATIVE PERCEPTION AND AFFIRMATION OF LIFE

Abstract. The article is devoted to studying the Estonian national landscape. The author discovers the peculiarities of the Estonian landscapists’ creative work of the beginning of the XX century, discusses the problem of the harmonious combination of the two aspects of landscape painting: the artistic representation, esthetic adoption of nature and expressing human feelings’ motion. The tasks and potentials of Estonian landscape painting are under study. The paper provides a critical analysis and description of artists’ experience while working on landscapes. The originality of the research involves the problem formulation itself, studying and identifying landscape painting peculiarities promoting the artistic and imaginative perception and affirmation of life through the lenses of the picture. The author makes conclusions regarding the transfer of “etude painting” essence, the role of composition in the picture, depicting the specific features and characteristics of nature. The diversity of creative manners and stylistic decisions testifies for the development of Estonian landscape painting.
