Abstract.
The article describes the methods of manufacturing the homespun fabric “toli”, the process of its dyeing to create the traditional costume of the eastern part of mountain Georgia. On the basis of the comparative analysis of museum and private collections the paper identifies the colour preferences of the Tushetians, Pshavs and Khevsurians. The author focuses on the factors promoting the replacement of natural dyes with chemical ones. The researcher emphasizes the importance of knowledge concerning extraction methods and dying fabric with natural dyes to create the traditional costume in the XXI century.
