Abstract. This article deals with the multi-faceted activity of Manuel del Pópulo Vicente García, who is a founder of the famous school of Garcia, a vocal teacher, a composer, an outstanding tenor, and a favorite of Gioachino Rossini. Garcia’s creativity takes a central place in the history of vocal art; however, it has been little-studied so far. The author considers the features of the singer’s performing style on the basis of works by Rossini, Mozart and Garcia and substantiates his role in the formation of the specialization of the tenor-virtuoso in the opera at the end of the XVIII - the beginning of the XIX century.
