Abstract.
The article investigates the role of timbre in the children’s perception of the surrounding acoustic space. The author presents a hypothesis that for a child space is not only an auditory perceptual phenomenon, but also a semantic source of deep meanings required for the formation of adequate musical perception. The importance of sound timbre is determined by its sense-forming and communicative meanings in the children’s perception of acoustic phenomena, and the most important thing - by its ability to integrate and structure the sound picture of the world.
