Abstract. The article is devoted to one of the first major works in the creativity of I. F. Stravinsky - the ballet “The Rite of Spring”. By the example of this piece of music a special role of orchestration and musical language in this genre is emphasized. The work is presented as innovative and significant for the history of the ballet genre with the strongly marked principle of unusual rhythmic thinking. In this composition the main artistic means of the symphony orchestra and original rhythmic techniques as well as special and unique instrumentation are organically intertwined for the first time in the practice of that time.
