THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS INDIAN POLICY IN THE 1990S

Abstract. The article analyzes the influence of the United States Congress on the process of developing American foreign policy regarding India. During the last decade of the XX century the USA policy in South Asia has changed, and the White House has reconsidered the importance of New Delhi for the American foreign policy interests. The author identifies the influence of Congress lobbies on developing the USA regional policy and discovers the factors determining Congressmen’s adoption of legislative initiatives regarding the Indian trend of foreign policy.
