ANTHROPOLOGICAL PRINCIPLE IN MICHAEL CHEKHOV’S ART

Abstract.
The article is devoted to such phenomenon as “theatre anthropology”, interest to which becomes more and more apparent in the XXI century. The insufficiently explored creative heritage of Michael Chekhov and its relation with the basic principles of theatrical anthropology cause a great number of myths and prejudice. In this connection, the author carefully examines the figure of Michael Chekhov as a forerunner of this direction. Special attention is paid to the issues of the unity of the master’s biography and his artistic activity considered through the lenses of theatre anthropology, which can be a key in understanding the method of acting technique according to Michael Chekhov.
