Abstract.
The article examines the unorthodox hamartiological conception by H. R. Niebuhr. Following the classical Reformation doctrine, H. R. Niebuhr considered the hamartiological conception as a constituting element of Christian anthropology. He rejected the orthodox Protestant hereditary sin conception focusing on personal responsibility. Sin for him is basically a religious, not ethical phenomenon associated with personal relations with God. Sin is conditioned by misunderstanding of God and subsequent disloyalty to Him.
