QUANTITATIVE ESTHETICS: W. HOGARTH’S “LINE OF BEAUTY”

Abstract.
The article analyzes W. Hogarth’s quantitative esthetics, provides the basic principles of esthetical quantitativeness: proportionality, order, symmetry, integrity in diversity. W. Hogarth, trying to find universals in the art of painting, develops the “line of beauty” conception based on strict rules implementing the integrity and proportion system of the beautiful.
