GENESIS OF ABY WARBURG’S IDEAS IN NIETZSCHEAN CONCEPTION: DIONYSIAN ELEMENT

Abstract.
The article discovers the influence of the philosophical Nietzschean paradigm on Aby Warburg’s theory of culture and his interpretation of the symbolic. The author analyzes the infusion of Friedrich Nietzsche’s ideas into Warburg’s methodological approach to studying the visual image phenomenon. The paper examines Warburg’s re-interpreted conception of “Dionysian” and “Apollonian” elements and traces its transformation into the autonomous “reflection space” theory based on symbolic thinking as a means for culture to preserve itself.
