INFORMATION WAR OF VOIVODE’S CHANCERY AGAINST “IMPOSTOR’S PARTY” AS A FACTOR TO RELEASE SOCIAL TENSION IN TYUMEN UYEZD IN 1773-1775

Abstract. The article introduces manuscript documents of the period of Yemelyan Pugachev’s rebellion of 1773-1775 into scientific use. On their basis the author reconstructs the course of Tyumen Voivode’s Chancery’s information war aimed to put down the rebel movement in the uyezd. The basic strategy of information influence on the citizens was to read out certain documents. Documents proclaiming victories of governmental troops and inevitable death of the rebels were to be disclosed. The actions of the Voivode’s Chancery are considered as a factor to release social tension in the town and uyezd.
