MYTHOLOGICAL CONSTANTS OF THE PSYCHOLOGICAL WORLD OF A. P. BORODIN’S QUARTET № 2

Liliya Vasil'evna Sevost'yanova
Saratov State Conservatory named after L. V. Sobinov

Submitted: November 1, 2016
Abstract. The article discovers the mythological origins of A. P. Borodin’s Quartet № 2. Referring to Jungian archetypes of Hero and Anima the author emphasizes the originality of their implementation, which differs from the traditional “romantic two-worldness” situation typical for composers-romanticists, in particular, P. I. Tchaikovsky. The paper shows changes in the quartet’s internal structure focusing on correlations between traditional elements and the quartet cycle on the whole. The identified peculiarities are compared with the characterological features of the composer’s personality.
