HISTORIOGRAPHICAL PRECONDITIONS OF “THEORY OF SLAVES’ REVOLUTION” IN INTERPRETATION OF V. T. SIROTENKO

Abstract.
The article presents a description of the well-known native medievalist V. T. Sirotenko’s views on the complex of reasons and conditions that contributed to the adoption of Stalin’s theses on the “slaves’ revolution” that crushed Rome by scientific community. Besides purely situational conditions of the political and ideological aspect, the paper determines the extent of N. D. Fustel de Coulanges’s ideas influence on native researchers - in the degree and forms, in which that influence was interpreted by V. T. Sirotenko.
