ROLE OF INTER-OBJECTIVITY AND MATERIAL CULTURE IN CONSCIOUSNESS FORMATION

Abstract.
The article proposes an approach to consciousness, according to which cultural artifacts are constitutive for consciousness along with social environment. The author provides examples of artifacts’ constitutive meaning for the formation of human consciousness and self-consciousness. The researcher proposes a hypothesis that individual consciousness in some cases can be explained in terms of the system that is broader than an individual, for example, the system “brain - body - tool - environment (both social and material)”.
