REPRESENTATION OF THE IMAGE AND MEDIA IMAGE OF RELIGION IN RUSSIAN CULTURE IN THE XIX - EARLY XXI CENTURY

Abstract. This article describes different aspects of representation of the image of religion and the religious man in culture, art and media space in the XIX - early XXI century and also the phenomenon of the iconic turn. The paper highlights importance of the visual image for formation of social consciousness. The author traces changes in the image of Orthodoxy, its representation in Russian religious painting, in works of the Peredvizhniki, in anti-religious posters of the 20s of the XX century, representation of ​​the image of religion and the religious man in modern media space. The researcher considers the image of a sectarian, a protestant in Soviet cinema in the period of struggle with religion in the 1960s.
