Abstract.
The article examines the problem of formation and development of visionary painting. The study aims to discover the origins, borders, specificity of visionary painting over the stylistic periods, during evolution of the themes, genres, techniques. Domestic painters are included into the western classification of visionaries. The author chose the following criteria for periodization of visionary art: chronology, territorial affiliation, authorship, genres, storylines and materials.
