Abstract.
The author reveals problems of development of physical culture and sport, faced by residents of the capital in the 1990-2000s, and ways to solve them proposed by the public authorities. On the basis of the research of the condition of mass physical culture and sport in the considered period the paper determines the degree of efficiency of activity of the state power authorities and local self-government in the sphere of physical culture and sport of Moscow.
