BIOPOLITICAL TECHNOLOGY OF FREEDOM: THE PROBLEM OF LIBERAL MANAGEMENT IN M. FOUCAULT’S PHILOSOPHICAL THEORY

Abstract.
In the article liberalism as a special political technology for managing freedom within the framework of the studies of the French philosopher Michel Foucault is analyzed. Liberalism as an art of management is articulated in the context of the notion “biopolitics” developed by the French philosopher. In the light of this problem statement, the phenomenon of civil society as the main correlate of the liberal method of management is considered. The theory of social contract is interpreted as an illustration of the type of controlled freedom that is being formed in liberalism.
