ATTILA IMAGE IN SCANDINAVIAN SAGAS: HISTORICAL AND SOCIO-CULTURAL ASPECTS

Abstract. The article is devoted to investigating Attila image in Scandinavian sagas. The author shows importance of information contained in Scandinavian sagas to reconstruct conceptions of Attila. Literatures of different cultures contain stories of Attila but in Scandinavian sagas he occupies a special place being one of the key positive personages. The author proves that in this aspect Scandinavian sagas were greatly influenced by Germanic epic works.
