Abstract.
The article is devoted to one of important turning points in behavioral evolution of the human being - transition from appropriation of food to its production. Within the framework of the hypothesis of canalized evolution, transition to agriculture and sedentary lifestyle is considered by archaeological and paleoecological materials of East Asia for the first time. On the basis of reconstruction of paleogeographic conditions and the analysis of trends in their changes, factors of natural environment pressure on ancient population at the end of the Pleistocene - the beginning of the Holocene are singled out. A model of transition to agriculture, intensive gathering and, accordingly, sedentary lifestyle is proposed.
