Abstract. The article examines history of architectural design in the administrative center of developing oil and gas fields of Western Siberia - the town of Surgut. The author mentions considerable contribution of Surgut architects to this process and shows that, in spite of the necessity to accommodate labour resources in standard houses approved by leading engineering companies, they consistently tried to develop individual civil engineering and house building projects in the north of Tyumen region thus providing original architectural image for Surgut.
