Abstract. The article is devoted to the problem of the emergence and development of fortified churches in the northern regions of France in the XVI-XVII centuries, located within two departments: Aisne and Ardennes. In the XVI century, through the continuous improvement of fortification, the fortified churches of this region acquired the universal structural and composite traits, which allows historians to refer them confidently to the typology “eglises fortifies”. By virtue of their importance, “eglises fortifies” of the region in the XVII century kept dynamics for further improvement of architectural and composite schemes, both in terms of fortification and in terms of iconography.
