TWO LINES IN THE FATE OF THE REVOLUTIONARY MOVEMENT VETERANS (BY THE MATERIALS OF THE CORRESPONDENCE OF V. I. SKLYAREVICH AND K. P. ZLINCHENKO IN THE 1920-1930S)

Abstract. The author of the article sets the task of clarifying the procedure of adapting Socialists-Narodniks to the everyday and political reality of the late 1920s and early 1930s. Two tactics of adaptation are revealed basing on the analysis of the correspondence of two veterans-revolutionaries found in the State Archives of the Russian Federation. The first suggested compensation for the non-Bolshevik past with communist ideology and political activism. The second was characterized by an attempt to compromise with the authorities: former opponents of the Bolsheviks abandoned the ideological principles of the defeated Narodnik movement and withdrew from active political activity in favor of public work. The author substantiates the point of view, according to which the compromise position promoted successful adaptation of veterans to postrevolutionary reality.
