ARTISTIC AND MEANINGFUL FUNCTION OF NATURAL SPACE IN M. I. GLINKA’S OPERA “A LIFE FOR THE TSAR”

Abstract.
Studying the function of the libretto’s structural and meaningful components, in particular spatial objects, is a relevant problem of musicology. These objects perform not only attributive but also meaning-generative function. This analytical aspect is insufficiently investigated in opera studies, which conditions the originality of the research. The article examines the principles of meaningful organization of natural space represented in M. I. Glinka’s opera “A Life for the Tsar”. Ontological, mythological and symbolical functions of natural objects are identified, their modelling features are ascertained. The author concludes on the ideological and artistic importance of natural space, which is an important element of the opera’s worldview.
