Image of Soviet Past in Fiction Films of Perestroika Era

Abstract.
The aim of the research is to identify the main characteristics of the Soviet past image in the cinematography of perestroika era (1985-1991). The interest of Russian researches in historical feature films has grown tremendously in the recent years. This topic is relevant in the context of cinematography of such complicated and controversial historical period as perestroika. The scientific originality of the research consists in almost complete absence of studies on this problem in Russian historiography. The article gives a brief analysis of 1985-1991 fiction films which show the historical figures of the preceding historical period (such as V. Lenin, I. Stalin, N. Khrushchev, L. Brezhnev, etc.), as well as events in the Soviet history (mainly Stalinist repressions and party and state terror, individual tragedies of people during the Great Terror), which directors interpret through cinematography. As a result, a complicated and complex image of the Soviet past presented in the films of perestroika era has been revealed.
