Abstract.
The aim of the research is to demonstrate the mechanism of structural resubordination of the Leningrad State Ceramic Institute from the People's Commissariat of Education to the subdepartmental structure of the Supreme Council of National Economy. Based on sources and previously published literature dedicated to the existence of the State Ceramic Institute, the article provides an example of the conflict between two tendencies in the Soviet scientific community: the focus on ensuring closely linked applied research at the expense of fundamental investigations in a specific subject area. The scientific novelty lies in the introduction of previously unused archival materials that testify to the stages of conflict between state institutions on the example of a specific establishment during the period from 1924 to 1926. As a result, based on historical sources, the dynamics of the confrontation between the People's Commissariat of Education and the Academy of Sciences on one side, and the Supreme Council of National Economy on the other side, for control over the scientific institution, the Ceramic Institute, are demonstrated.
