Abstract. The proposed contextual review of the musical art of the 20th century is based primarily on the material of choral creativity, based on the desire for maximum conciseness of presentation, and this, naturally, requires limitations in the volume of the material under consideration, which is especially necessary in the conditions of a truly gigantic variety of artistic phenomena of the last century. Its artistic culture has gone through three major periods in its evolution: the beginning of the 20th century (1890-1920), the middle of the 20th century (1930s-1950s) and the second half of the 20th century (1960s-1980s).
