The formation of the legal framework for the protection of women's reproductive health in the USSR in the 1930s

Abstract.
The objective of this research is to examine the development of the Soviet state's social policy in the 1930s regarding the protection of women's reproductive health by analyzing the adopted normative legal acts. The article examines the influence of the Soviet state's goal of achieving growth in demographic indicators in the context of forced modernization on the process of creating and developing a system for protecting reproductive health. The research determined that the period under review saw the actual legal institutionalization of the protection of women's reproductive health in the USSR. The author identifies what measures were taken to ensure conditions for the birth of a healthy child and to prevent and treat diseases in women. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that, through an analytical review of normative legal acts and scientific works related to social transformations during the period of industrialization and collectivization, priority areas in the field of women's health protection were identified. It was determined that the main attention of the state was focused on the creation of medical institutions. As a result of the research, it was established that the Soviet state managed to create a legal framework for the protection of women's reproductive health that corresponded to the political and socio-economic conditions of the 1930s and contributed to the preservation of reproductive potential. Factors reducing the effectiveness of the Soviet state's system for protecting women's reproductive health were also identified. Among them are a significant restriction of women's right to reproductive choice, the actual exclusion of the protection of male reproductive health from the state's focus, and the absence of special measures designed for specific categories of the population.
