Abstract.
This article is dedicated to analyzing the artistic expressiveness of the illustrations by Eduard Semenovich Gorokhovsky (1929-2004) and Vladimir Alexandrovich Avdeev (b. 1957), created for books published by the West Siberian Book Publishing House. The research aims to identify methods of modeling the wondrous in book graphics by comparing two authorial strategies: from the symbolic generalization of a mythopoetic image (in V. A. Avdeev) to the narrative interpretation of everyday space (in E. S. Gorokhovsky). The scientific novelty of the study lies in drawing on specific illustrative material for analysis – Vladimir Avdeev's illustrations for the book "True Story and Tall Tale" ("Byl' i Nebyl'," 1966) and Eduard Gorokhovsky's illustrations for the collection "Fairy Tales" (1985) by the Brothers Grimm, published by the West Siberian Book Publishing House. This selection of works is considered in a comparative aspect for the first time, with the aim of identifying the features of the artistic modeling of the fairy-tale world in book graphics. The research establishes that the nature of the artistic language of the illustrations is largely determined by the structure of the fairy tale text itself: in Gorokhovsky's work, the magical is localized in reality, while in Avdeev's work, it acquires a monumental-symbolic character. The conclusions drawn contribute to a deeper understanding of the specifics of the formation of the artistic language of book graphics in the context of the activities of the West Siberian Book Publishing House.
