Abstract.
The research aims to identify the main manifestations of official propaganda in the urban environment of Tambov Governorate during the initial period of the First Russian Revolution. The paper examines the channels and methods of propaganda activities of the provincial and local authorities and also assesses the effectiveness of its impact on the urban strata of the aforementioned region of the Russian Empire in 1905. The effectiveness of monarchist propaganda is established based on the opposition of the inhabitants of the cities of Tambov Governorate to the actions organized primarily by the intelligentsia and student youth against the existing political regime. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that, for the first time, it examines and structures the basic elements of monarchist propaganda using Tambov archival materials, as well as information from local periodicals, identifying its provincial specifics. As a result, we note the high degree of productivity of propaganda activities carried out by Tambov authorities at various levels, including with the energetic support of the church, as evidenced by the fairly active opposition of a part of the townspeople and workers to social unrest that took place during the initial period of the Russian Revolution of 1905-1907.
