Application of functional orchestration principles in V. Panchenko’s works for wind orchestra

Abstract.
The aim of the study is to identify the principles and techniques of functional orchestration in V. Panchenko’s works for wind orchestra, applying the theses formulated by G. Banshchikov in the textbook “Laws of Functional Orchestration”. The article analyzes the scores of the Russian composer Vladislav Viktorovich Panchenko “Triumph of Orthodoxy”, “Ilya Muromets”, “For Faith and Loyalty”, in which the role of instruments, ensembles, and groups of this composition, their interaction, and their degree of influence on the formation of the work’s texture are most clearly illustrated. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that, for the first time, the principles of V. Panchenko’s application of functional orchestration in wind orchestra scores, which are based on the practical experience of 19th and 20th-century composers, have been identified and studied. As a result of the study, it was established that the use of orchestral groups, which are integral structural elements of the texture of the works “Triumph of Orthodoxy”, “Ilya Muromets”, and “For Faith and Loyalty”, forms the principles and patterns of functional orchestration. V. Panchenko’s creativity, while being in line with modern trends in this type of orchestration, nevertheless remains original, with a distinct individual style.
