Abstract.
The publication aims to reconstruct the history of the “Energy to the People” mosaic panel at the Volga Hydroelectric Power Station as the final stage of the gala-triumphal trend in Soviet monumental art of the late 1950s. The article states that the panel, created by prominent monumental artists N. F. Barokha, Yu. I. Bosko, M. Ya. Pyshta, P. L. Malkov, A. V. Golovanov, and N. Ya. Petrov (State Archives of the Volgograd Region, fund R-6281), reflects the achievements of the Soviet era in monumental art and industrial construction. The study analyzes the macro- and micro-factors that determined the development of monumentalism in the region and the formation of its architectural identity. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the introduction of previously unpublished archival sources into scholarly use to provide a comprehensive analysis of the development of monumental art in Stalingrad and its role in the evolution of Soviet architecture. The results of the study consist of an analysis of the historical and cultural context that influenced the formation of the stylistic features of Soviet monumental painting during the period under review and their embodiment in the panel “Energy to the People”.
