The role and prospects of digital higher education in contemporary Russian society

Abstract. The study aims to identify the contradictions and potential developmental trends of digital higher education within the context of the formation of a digital society. The article reveals the essence and content of the concept of “digital higher education”, as well as the contexts of its use; defines the significance of digital higher education at the current stage of social development; identifies contradictions in digital higher education and presents them in the form of dilemmas; and outlines possible scenarios for the development of digital higher education. The scientific novelty of the work lies in its socio-philosophical interpretation of the formation of a new educational paradigm for higher education in Russian society. The research establishes that the identified contradictions create a situation of uncertainty, which serves as a catalyst for a wide range of risks posing serious challenges to the future of digital higher education. In this regard, three possible scenarios are presented: optimistic (full-scale digital transformation of higher education), pessimistic (stagnation of the digitalization of higher education), and realistic (hybrid education).
