E. Krenek’s “Journey through the Austrian Alps”: the dramaturgy of the cycle

Abstract.
The aim of this paper is to identify the dramatic and figurative features of the vocal cycle “Journey through the Austrian Alps” by the 20th-century composer E. Krenek. The article explores the lyrical content, formative features, genre and stylistic features, and musical language of this work. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that for the first time in Russian musicology, a complete structural and semantic analysis of this opus by E. Krenek has been conducted, expanding musicological knowledge of this little-known work in Russia. The paper also traces the features of F. Schubert’s romantic vocal cycle, which in “Journey through the Austrian Alps” have been reimagined in the context of 20th-century music.
