Abstract.
The article aims to identify the significance of Sino-Soviet art exhibitions and their coverage in the “Sino-Soviet Culture” magazine in shaping the artistic dialogue between the USSR and China during the Anti-Japanese War. The focus is on key exhibition projects – namely, the exhibition of Chinese art in the USSR (1940) and exhibitions of Soviet graphic arts in China (1936, 1943) – examined from the perspective of exposition structures, artistic forms, and methods of cultural transmission. Special attention is paid to aspects such as the correlation between ancient and contemporary art, the strengthening of realistic themes, the social function of art, and the formation of a transnational artistic discourse. The scientific novelty of the study lies in establishing that the “Sino-Soviet Culture” magazine acted not merely as an information platform, but as a mechanism for shaping the artistic dialogue between the USSR and China during the Anti-Japanese War. It is demonstrated that these exhibitions contributed not only to mutual familiarity with artistic traditions but also to the active dissemination of the realistic method, the modernization of printmaking techniques, and the rethinking of the social role of art. Under wartime conditions, Sino-Soviet artistic contacts took on the character of cultural diplomacy aimed at mobilizing public consciousness.
