The image of nomadic culture in contemporary Siberian Art: artistic interpretation of tradition in the work of Zorikto Dorzhiev

Abstract.
The aim of the study is to identify features of the artistic interpretation of images from the traditional culture of nomadic peoples in contemporary Siberian art, using the work of Zorikto Dorzhiev (b. 1976) as material. The article examines principles of transforming ethnic motifs within the contemporary artistic process and analyzes key images of nomadic culture – the steppe, the rider, the horse, the feminine figure, symbols of the circle and the sky – in the structure of the artist’s works. Special attention is paid to comparing different models of addressing the nomadic theme in the history of art, from academic and ethnographic documentation to symbolic and postmodern reinterpretation. The scientific novelty of the study lies in identifying the specific features of the transformation of nomadic cultural images in contemporary Siberian art using the example of Zorikto Dorzhiev’s oeuvre. The study finds that the artist’s visual language is built on principles of collage, symbolization, and semantic layering, whereby traditional images lose attachment to a particular historical context and function as multilayered cultural codes that form a universal symbolic space uniting historical memory, mythological representations, and elements of contemporary visual culture.
